PPF E-Beat Invite Guest Speakers to Your JPA Program!
Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 01:07PM
Guest speakers can be a wonderful asset to any JPA program. Inviting guest speakers to speak to your JPA Cadets brings the real world of law enforcement into the classroom. Here is a list of possible guest speakers to consider:
- Chief of Police or Sheriff
- DEA Agent
- K-9 Officer
- FBI Agent
- Secret Service Agent
- Crime Scene Investigator
- Bomb Squad Technician
- SWAT Team Leader
- Animal Protection Officer
- Recruitment Officer
These are just a few of the many guest speakers that will enhance your JPA Program and inspire your cadets. Not only is inviting guest speakers educational for your cadets, but it provides a way to promote your JPA Program to the local or regional law enforcement community. Below are some tips to welcome all guest speakers and show your appreciation:
1. When guest speakers have completed their presentation present them with a “Certificate of Appreciation” and have the class give a “round of applause”.
2. If they are Police Officers, send a letter to the Chief of Police thanking the Chief for permitting the Police Officer to visit, along with nice comments on the presentation.
3. If it is a JPA graduation, invite all guest speakers by sending them a written invitation.
Take photos of guest speakers with a few of your JPA cadets. Get permission first. Use the photos on any websites you have, in media relations or press release and other public relations materials.

JPA E-Beat Cadets from New Jersey JPA Program Offer Holiday Safety Tips
Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 01:12PM
Christmas is here and everyone needs to be reminded of safety tips during this holiday season. The JPA Cadets from the Monmouth County Vocational School, in Freehold, NJ would like to share these holiday safety tips with you and your cadets.
1. If you have wrapped holiday presents at home, do not display them in front of a window or sliding glass doors. Burglars can see everything when they are checking out a home
2. When shopping, take extra precautions with your wallet or purse. Carry your purse with the opening flap next to your body and place the strap over your head and hanging diagonal from your shoulder to your waist.
3. Always lock your car doors and remember where you park. Be sure to put valuables out of sight (ex. packages). Place them in the trunk if possible.
4. Instruct children on holiday safety measures. When shopping, know where your children are at all times.
5. If waiting for a ride from a friend or public transportation, do so in a busy, well-lit area.
6. If you go away for the holidays, try to keep your home appearing "lived in". Get an automatic timer for your lights and have a neighbor watch your home to pick up your mail and newspapers.
